The recently released NOVE Trident watch is a staggering 6.8mm thick, pushing the boundaries of what is expected from highly functional dive watches. Amazingly, the NOVE Trident is able to withstand the heavy pressures of deep-sea exploration, able to go as deep as 660 feet/200 meters beneath the surface.

The watch is built around a Swiss Ronda 1062 Slimtec Quartz module, which has been chosen to provide excellent reliability in the most crucial situations. Additionally, the use of a quartz movement makes the Trident a grab-and-go option for any collection.

The name and design of the watch have been inspired by the legendary Trident of Poseidon, God of the sea. Rather than featuring the standard unidirectional click spring one might expect to find sandwiched between the bezel and case middle, the NOVE Trident uses three lever stoppers, which engage with the toothed interior edge of the timing bezel. The advantages? A significant reduction in bezel jamming due to saltwater exposure over time, and a further reduction in thickness. As with a normal unidirectional bezel, it can only be turned counterclockwise, meaning that should it receive a knock and travel out of its intended position, the diver using this timing mechanism to gauge the length of their dive will not be at risk of remaining submerged for too long (the time remaining on their dive can only decrease, which does not pose the same threat as a lengthened dive, which would require more oxygen).

The matte, high-contrast dial is protected by a 30mm wide sapphire crystal, chosen to withstand extreme pressure. The pared-back dial design is complemented by high-contrast hands treated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring that the Trident is just as striking at night as it is in low-light conditions. The tranquility of the dial is intended to evoke the tranquility of life beneath the waves.

A screw-down crown and solid caseback further shore up the exterior against the possibility of water ingress. To keep the watch safe on the wrist, NOVE selected the highest quality buckle system, employing a secure and attractive butterfly clasp that remains fastened unless both buttons are simultaneously depressed.

As a brand, NOVE believes that life should be more balanced than a balancing act. The founders established the company to serve those who appreciate contemporary design and seek shared experiences. Thus, the seconds hand has been eliminated not only to reduce thickness, but also to send the message that life should not be measured in seconds, but rather experiences. Every glance at a NOVE watch should be a reflection to pause, to take in the moment, to enjoy the journey, and to encourage a balanced life. Prices begin at $320 and go up to $368 depending on case finishing. Within that range, customers have 10 vibrant colors to choose from. The focal point of this article is the Blue IP (ion-plated) 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel model on matching bracelet, but many other combinations await at
